Dads, daughters dance the night away

Fancy, twirling dresses and dark suits took over the night recently for an evening of dancing, while horse-drawn carriages laid in wait beyond the doors.

Roxborough Primary School filled with dancers for the Parent Teacher Involvement Committee’s annual Father Daughter Dance on Friday, Feb. 2. The 11th annual event was geared toward girls in kindergarten through sixth grade and their father figures.
This year, more than 450 people attended, and those ticket sales raised more than $5,000 to support the Roxborough schools, said Christina Brennan, PTIC president.

Tanya Thompson, an event organizer, said, “All proceeds go to funding student activities, community events, educational tools, teacher salaries, teacher grants and any potential needs of the school.” She noted that past dances drew about 330-380 people to the dance floor.

The PTIC, a non-profit chapter of the Douglas County Educational Foundation, hosts a number of fundraisers per year to benefit the schools. The next big event will be the Community Auction on April 20 from 6 to 11 p.m. at Arrowhead Golf Club.
The theme for this year’s auction, which is open to the public, will be a masquerade ball. A live, silent auction, buffet dinner and musical entertainment are included. Admission is $35 per person if purchased before March 19 and $45 afterward.

The PTIC is asking for donations, volunteers and sponsors to make the night a success. For more information, contact the PTIC auction committee members at roxpticauction@gmail.com.
