Shea Homes is a division of J.F. Shea Co., Inc. Best known in Colorado for having built Highlands Ranch, Shea Homes is the largest privately owned home developer in the United States. They are headquartered in Walnut, California and have completed several projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Washington State.
J.F. Shea Co. was founded in 1881 in Portland, Oregon as a small plumbing business. The company quickly grew over the years to include commercial construction, engineering, ship building, highway and tunneling construction and eventually community and home building.
Shea Homes has a new project, tentatively referred to as Plum Creek, which is coming to the Roxborough area. Set on 380 acres, this new community will be just south of Chatfield State Park, north of Titan Road and just west of Santa Fe Drive. Plum Creek is still another two-four years away from breaking ground but once complete, this new northwest Douglas County community will include up to 1,200 single family homes. The design of those homes is still under development, but a project spokesman anticipates there will be both ranch and two story styles.
